Developmental Disability Services

These are services for individuals with primary developmental disabilities such as mental retardation, autism, and cerebral palsy. Intensive case management services are provided in all 7 counties. Individual, group and family therapy is offered to individuals and families in each county.
For residents in Oktibbeha and Clay counties, CCS provides vocational services at Skills Training Centers. The skills center have sub- contract work and individual placement with business and industry. In Oktibbeha County, Community Counseling Services’ Community Living Program provides support for adults with developmental disabilities living in apartments, homes, and a 6 person group home providing independent living skills training to both males and females.

Skills Work Activity Center, Oktibbeha County

Work Activity services are provided to a minimum of 50 mentally retarded/developmentally disabled individuals age 16 and over residing within the seven county service area of Region VII MH/MR Commission, Community Counseling Services. Persons served by work activity must be diagnosed as mentally retarded/developmentally disabled per a certificate of eligibility signed by a medical doctor or a Ph.D. psychologist, and based upon appropriate medical and psychological data. Referrals to Work Activity services are submitted by CMHC staff, case managers, therapists, local medical offices, and other service agencies. Persons admitted to work activity must meet eligibility requirements as stated above as well as meet the following program requirements:

1.      Must be functionally mentally retarded/developmentally disabled.

2.      Must live within Region VII: Choctaw, Clay, Lowndes, Noxubee, Oktibbeha, Webster, or Winston counties

3.      Must be able to get to designated pick up sites.

4.      Must be capable of securing transportation, if unable to ride CCS van.

5.      Must not be a threat to self, staff, or other individuals.

6.      Must abide by rules and regulations concerning worksite safety, appropriate work conduct, and be willing to accept redirection when indicated.

Day Habilitation, Oktibbeha County and Noxubee County
Day Habilitation Services provide individual training and support in the acquisition, retention or improvement in daily living, social, communication, self-help and other adaptive skills for individuals eligible under the HCBS-MR/DD Waiver. A Habilitation Plan is developed within thirty (30) days of admission to Day Habilitation services.  Each plan is developed based upon activities identified as meaningful to the individual and/or his/her family, as well as the interests, desires, wishes and personal outcomes of individuals receiving services during Future Planning sessions. There are planned activities at any time individuals receiving services are present which include community integration.
